The Coach

The first picture is me fresh out of college ('08), and in my ensuing grad school years I became heavier and more unhealthy as I subsisted on 4 hours of sleep a night, no exercise, and too much peanut butter.
I didn't have some dramatic, sudden glow-up or a 180 shift in my health habits to get where I am now. It took me time, patience, education, and many gradual shifts in my day-to-day practices.
I did a lot of dumb stuff along the way and spun my wheels for a long time. I didn't have a personal trainer and didn't know a 'nutrition coach' was even a thing.
Nowadays I get to be both, and nothing beats helping people realize they have more control, health knowledge, confidence, and strength than they thought possible.

Why are you called “Supernova” Nutrition and Fitness?
A supernova is a star that increases exponentially in brightness and energy output as it ejects much of its mass. Supernovas are stunning with their brilliant light and color, and the massive transfer of energy leaves behind a very different star. Supernova Nutrition and Fitness is all about transformation! We work with you as you transform into your healthiest, strongest, and most empowered self.
What is a Certified Nutrition Coach?
A Certified Nutrition Coach has a firm grounding in nutrition science and behavior change. They help their clients attain their health and fitness goals through education and accountability. There is no one “right” way to eat that fits every individual, so the details of the process vary based on each individual client. However, a nutrition coach can be an invaluable resource to: - Cut through nutrition and fitness misinformation and supply evidence-based advice and resources. - Pinpoint specific obstacles the client is facing and how best to navigate them. - Determine the correct amount of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats optimal for a client’s goal- whether it be weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain. - Encourage, motivate, and provide accountability as they monitor progress towards client goals. - Foster skills and habits that clients can use to maintain a healthy lifestyle for years to come.
Who is Nutrition and Fitness Coaching for?
Nutrition and Fitness coaching is for anyone who is looking to develop a healthier eating pattern and effective exercise practices as they work to lose, gain, or maintain weight! I can help you... - consistently fit healthy pursuits into your busy life. - find a scientifically-sound approach to improve your health and physique. - give you help and accountability shifting out of habits that hold you back. - acquire healthy practices that serve you in the long run. In short- coaching is for just about anyone! However, it is out of my particular scope of practice to provide nutritional therapy to treat medical conditions or to prescribe specific meal plans. As such, I cannot coach athletes competing at elite levels; people with diabetes not controlled by medication; individuals with endocrine/hormone disorders not controlled by medication; or individuals with eating disorders (past or present).
Will you provide a specific meal plan?
Nope! If you rely on being told *exactly* what to eat and when, how will you fare when you no longer have a meal plan given to you? Instead, Supernova’s goal is to ensure that clients attain the skills, knowledge, and habits necessary to independently sustain a healthy lifestyle in the long term.
Do I have to cut out sweets, carbs, or other specific foods?
With Supernova, you can learn how to be healthy without swearing off oreos or pasta for the rest of your life! Nutrition coaching can give you the tools to eat healthy AND incorporate ‘fun’ foods so you are both nourishing your body and getting rid of the exhausting mindset that eating is a ‘battleground’ of good and evil foods.
I don’t follow a Western eating pattern. Are you able to work with me?
Yes! I am familiar with many different foods and regional diets and can help you attain your goals no matter what your dietary preferences are.
What if I don’t have a home gym?
At our introductory meeting, I will ask what equipment you have and plan accordingly. A few basics are certainly useful (I highly recommend a set of light, medium, and heavy dumbbells), BUT I can create effective custom workouts for you whether you have a fully loaded gym or nothing but your own bodyweight to work with!
Do you do house visits?
I do not do house visits/in-person training at this time.
Do you have a referral discount?
Yes! For every client you refer who schedules a consultation with Supernova, you will receive $25 off your next month or half off your next training session. If that client then signs up with Supernova, that amount doubles, so you receive $50 off your next month OR a free live training session.
Will you make me do burpees?
If you love them, definitely. If you loathe them, NO! While all effective exercise necessarily entails hard work, I want to help you find that ‘hard work’ that you can enjoy and make a consistent part of your life.
